About Us

Based in Devon, UK, Zona Guitars was launched by Wayne Owens in 2022. 

Wayne knows what guitarists and songwriters need from a guitar because he has had one in his hands most of his life. As a guitar builder, he made his first guitar from scratch when he was 16 because he couldn't afford to buy the ones he wanted. As a musician, he's been in signed bands twice, played hundreds of gigs (from intimate venues to festivals), and recorded in studios of all sizes. 

He also knows good design, having spent two decades as a graphic designer and creative director. Every aspect of the design of our instruments, pickups, and metalwork is therefore deeply considered, both ergonomically and visually.

We are committed to making true songwriting, recording, and gigging instruments: versatile, playable, good-looking, and that feel really good in your hands. We are also committed to keeping affordable options in the hopes that some of our guitars end up in the hands of musicians from backgrounds like his.

In 2024, Zona founded the Alternative Guitar Shows, small pop-ups in rock venues that gather the best of the UK innovative guitar, pedal, and accessory makers under one roof.
